The Belfry at Christmas, a luxurious stay in the Midlands

Please share

Everybody needs to treat themselves occasionally and never more so than during the stresses of the Christmas season. An indulgent stay at the 5 star Belfry at Christmas is my favourite way to find some much needed rest and relaxation.

The Belfry Hotel

Perhaps best known for its famous golf course, the Belfry Hotel near Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands UK offers beautiful rooms, gorgeous surroundings and a huge dose of festive cheer over the Christmas season.

The hotel is set within 550 acres of beautiful countryside, the world renowned golf course and perfectly landscaped gardens. It is absolutely huge with over 300 rooms, numerous functions rooms, restaurants and a superb Spa area.

Rooms at the Belfry Hotel

We stayed in a Signature Double room and the huge, comfortable bed was the perfect place to rest my Christmas ravaged head. As I was visiting with my daughter, I was very pleased to see the many charging points for all her technological needs and the large HDTV on the wall. There are also the usual tea and coffee making facilities, a Dyson fan and spotlessly clean ensuite with my favourite ESPA toiletries.

If you’re visiting with a larger family group then they have family rooms and suites available offering more space and additional beds and if cash is no problem then the two room Presidential Suite looks absolutely amazing!

Festive touches at the Belfry

Just because you’re escaping the Christmas craziness at home, doesn’t mean you want to forget the festive season altogether. The Belfry hotel is beautifully decorated all through. From the two huge trees either side of the main door to the elegantly trimmed fireplace in reception this is the Christmas decor of dreams!

The Belfry offers a variety of ways to celebrate your Christmas break. Their two night stay over the big day gets booked up super fast as it’s such a great deal. You could also opt for a festive afternoon tea which is less than £30 per person or a festive Sunday lunch for £35 and let someone else do the hard work and washing up!

If you fancy treating the kids then they’ll love the buffet lunch with Santa, they’ll even throw in a gift for each child. But my favourite is the Golf or Spa interlude break. It includes an overnight stay with breakfast and either a fire and Ice spa experience or round of golf per person. Such a great value way to recover from what has so far been a crazy year.

Check the Belfry website to discover all their Christmas offers including their Christmas party nights which sound like a blast!

Christmas decor isn’t restricted to the reception area, the rest of the hotel gets dressed up ready to celebrate too. I loved the huge gingerbread house in the Ryder Grill. Although it was oh so tempting to try a taste!

Where to eat

The Brabazon Bar located near the main reception is the perfect place for some glamorous pre dinner drinks. During the day it’s full of business people and friends enjoying afternoon tea. It livens up in the evening making it a fun spot for a cocktail.

For a relaxed dining experience there’s Rocco’s Pizza Pasta restaurant. Ideal for a quick meal or if you have kids in tow.

Sam’s Bar is another fun place for a drink or quick bite to eat. Again with a very relaxed atmosphere which livens up in the evening.

Breakfast is served in the Ryder Grill restaurant, overlooking the golf course and is one of the best we’ve experienced anywhere. The restaurant is tastefully designed, bright and airy and the food all freshly cooked with many options to choose from. You may have to queue a little to get in on busy Christmas mornings.

If you fancy something a bit lighter, you could always pop into the onsite Starbucks, just outside the Ryder Grill.

If you want to get away from the hotel then one of my favourite gastro-pubs, the Cock Inn at Wishaw is 5 minutes down the road.

The Spa at the Belfry Hotel

The Belfry is home to one of my favourite Spa experiences – the Fire and Ice. You work your way through a range of bio thermal rooms, some using heat, some cold, all designed to invigorate the senses. And it really does, I felt like I had a new bounce in my step at the end and was more than ready to take on the festive challenges ahead when I returned home. Fire and Ice is closed until 1st October. Fingers crossed they will be able to reopen for the festive period but probably best to check with the hotel first.

You can also choose from a wide range of treatments or just spend time in the large pool, whirl pools and relaxation lounge.

Activities for kids at the Belfry Hotel

If you’re visiting the Belfry hotel with kids, there’s no need to be put off by its 5 star status. It is also super family friendly. The hotel provides activity packs for little ones on arrival, they have a super fun mini golf course, a beautiful woodland walk and adventure playground. And of course a swim in the indoor pool is a lovely treat for most little ones.

How to get to the Belfry Hotel

What other Christmas activities can I do near the Belfry

There is so much to do in the middle of England at Christmas time so the Belfry is perfectly located for a festive day out. I recommend heading into the UKs second city, Birmingham for an evening exploring the German Market. Or drive 20 minutes down the M42 for a visit to Tamworths SnowDome for some indoor skiing or ice skating. If you’re visiting with kids, be sure to check out this post on where to see Santa in the West Midlands . Or for some outdoor fun be sure to head into Staffordshire to explore glorious Cannock Chase.

At the time of writing we’re undergoing the largest healthcare crisis we’ve ever faced. I am pleased to see that the Belfry hotel has taken many measure to ensure their staff and customers remain safe. You can read all their updated protocol here.

Christmas at the Belfry Hotel, a conclusion

If you’re looking for somewhere to relax during the festive season then I would definitely recommend a stay at the Belfry. Whilst it can feel a little indulgent and expensive at a time when money is surely tight for everyone I feel the impact to everyones mood is well worth the investment. And I’m still dreaming about that spa months later!

Make sure you pin for later when looking for a great hotel over Christmas
