Thinking of Glamping? Staffordshire has some fantastic sites.

I’ll be totally honest, we’re not a family of campers. Whilst the romance of sleeping under the stars, cooking outdoors and getting full on back to nature appeals, the reality for us has always been far different. Soggy socks, forgotten tent pegs and punctured blow up beds have always put a dampener on our attempts. Glamping however is totally different combining all the adventure of a night outdoors with all the home comforts I’m sad to say we require. And clamping in Staffordshire is one of the best ways to experience the area.

Holidays are going to look a little different this year for sure and whilst I’m an avid overseas traveller (my main blog is all about family travel), I’m quite looking forward to exploring a little closer to home this year. Staying in and around my beloved home base, Staffordshire. Whilst the thought of staying in a busy hotel does make me a little nervous, a glamping holiday feels like the perfect solution – easy to social distance, very few shared spaces but with some little bits of luxury thrown in to make it feel special.

Here are the top 5 sites for glamping Staffordshire has to offer:

1. Peake’s Retreats

Near Burton Upon Trent

Home to 3 Yurts overlooking the beautiful Staffordshire countryside. The Yurts are each 6 metres and comfortable sleep six people, making them ideal for a family holiday in Staffordshire.

The Yurts are not connected to electricity meaning you truly can shut off and enjoy each others company. They provide candles for cosy dark nights and there is power available for charging phones and tablets. Each Yurt has a log burning stove for heat and cooking and an outdoor fire pit perfect for star gazing.

Dogs are allowed on site but be sure to let the owners know before you visit.

Anslow
Burton upon Trent

Peake’s Retreats is perfectly located for loads of activities in this beautiful part of the world. You’re within half an hour of the lively cities of Burton Upon Trent and Derby but the real draw of this place is it’s proximity to some amazing countryside walks. Cannock chase is pretty close by as is River Trent and one of my favourite places to walk, The Dunstall Estate is just down the road.

2. Cannock Chase Safari Tents

Cannock Chase, Near Rugeley

Slightly less glamorous but no less fun, the safari tents at Cannock Chase are located in England’s smallest area of natural beauty and the perfect place to enjoy a night under canvas. Cannock Chase glamping is one of the best places for a night under the stars in Staffordshire.

Each tent sleeps six in one double bed, a triple bunk bed and another pull out bed. You can section off the tent into two separate bedrooms. Ideal for large families or groups of friends. They all have their own veranda for enjoying a cheeky vino after a day exploring the Chase and there are plenty of shared facilities on site.

The safari tents have a fully stocked kitchen but if you don’t feel like cooking, there are loads of local pubs and cafes to cater for you.

Unfortunately pets are not allowed in the safari tents so best to leave them with a loved one for your visit.

Cannock Chase really is the perfect place to call home for a few nights with many hiking or biking trails on your doorstep. If you fancy a bit more adventure then there’s a Go Ape treetop adventure and full little ones a sweet Gruffulo trail. For history lovers, the National Trust’s Shugborough Hall makes for a great visit and the pretty city of Lichfield is just down the road.

3. Woodhall Glamping

Codsall, near Wolverhampton

This is one for larger groups as the minimum booking is for 8 people. But how much fun to try Glamping with a bunch of mates.

Set on a farm, each bell tent has comfy beds, wood burners and plenty of outdoor space to explore. There’s no wifi at Woodhall but surely that’s no bad thing if you’re looking to reconnect with you family or friends.

Whilst Woodhall Farm feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, its only 15 minutes from Codsall train station and from there it’s just 30 minutes to the bright lights and nightlife of Birmingham. There’s plenty to do in the local area with a golf course and driving range, Boscobel House and Weston Hall on the doorstep.

For the ultimate in romantic glamping head to Secret Cloud House. Each of the five yurts have crisp white linen, furry blankets for cosy evenings and a hot tub offering breathtaking views across the Staffordshire Moorlands.

You’ll have your own private eco toilet and access to wet rooms and flushing toilets new to the Spa (yes Spa!) area. They have a sauna for guests to use which is closed at the moment due to social distancing and additional safety measures being implemented.

Denstone, near Uttoxeter

For something with slight more solid walls, gorgeous Greenacres Farm is home to a charming Shepherd Hut. Small, cosy with no TV or Wifi, this is the perfect place for a romantic break with your significant other.

The hut has a fully fitted kitchen , en-suite shower and toilet all decorated with the most beautiful country chic features – think oak floors and a log burning stove, you really won’t want to leave.
