Hoar Cross Hall is without a doubt one of the best Spa hotels in Staffordshire. It has everything you could possibly need from a weekend spa break and plenty of places onsite to grab some food or a drink. But sometimes it’s nice to explore a little further afield. There are some brilliant pubs near Hoar Cross Hall, these are just a few of my favourites.
The Meynell Ingram Arms, Hoar Cross
An easy 5 minute walk from Hoar Cross Hall is the gorgeous Meynell Ingram Arms. A typical Staffordshire country pub and probably one of the best in the county. The Meynell has several parts to it providing whatever type of night out you fancy. The front bar is very relaxed ideal for a post walk pint with your pooch. Then the main restaurant is slightly more up market and a great spot for a fancy meal out. Then there’s the sports bar which is comfy and cosy and serves possibly the best pizzas in Staffordshire.
The Meynell also has a lovely outside seating area, outdoors bar and sweet heated “pods” which offer lovely outside dining whatever the weather. Read more about the Meynell Ingram Arms here.

The Red Lion, Newborough
Another great Staffordshire country pub and restaurant but this one has a more homely feel. Staff are always extremely welcoming and it has a loyal base of locals propping up the bar most nights.
The food is excellent, mostly locally sourced and prepared on site. We often visit for their amazing Sunday lunches and will always order some bar snacks (think pigs in blankets and scotch eggs) if we’re just stopping for a drink.
You can walk to the Red Lion in Newborough from Hoar Cross Hall in just over half an hour or drive it in less than ten minutes. If you need any more convincing, this year the Red Lion was named Staffordshires pub of the year! Read more about the Red Lion in Newborough and check out the style of the pub.

The Foresters Arms
Located out towards Yoxall and about a ten minute drive from Hoar Cross Hall is the lovely Foresters Arms. Another country pub with excellent food. Hugely popular with locals for their amazing Sunday lunches and friendly welcome.
They have regular specials nights such as steak nights and special deals on food. Also music and comedy nights which make a great visit if you can make the schedule work.
While you’re here make sure you try one of these fantastic Yoxall walks and discover more of this beautiful part of Staffordshire.

The Middle Bell, Barton Under Needwood
Located in the delightful village of Barton under Needwood which is just a 15 minute drive from Hoar Cross Hall is the Middle Bell. Recently renovated food here is perfect if you’re just not quite sure want you want. They serve tapas style small plates, sharing boards, excellent pizzas and main dishes such as steaks and burgers. They even serve a Tuesday chippy tea which you can order in or have to take away.
Barton Under Needwood is home to one of my favourite places for a walk in the area, check out the Dunstall Estate for some great views of the surrounding countryside.

The Three Horseshoes, Barton Under Needwood
If local pubs with great food are more your thing then you won’t be disappointed by the Three Horseshoes just a little further down from the Middle Bell.
We often pop in here for their amazing Sunday lunches. I would say this is one of the best pubs near Hoar Cross Hall for a roast dinner. And the front bar always has a lively atmosphere especially during sports events.
Three Horseshoes, 2 Station Road, Barton Under Needwood, DE13 8DR.
The Crown, Abbots Bromley
Abbots Bromley is another delightful Staffordshire village to explore during your stay at Hoar Cross Hall. Less than ten minutes drive from the hotel. It’s home to some beautiful properties and a thriving community. There’s a great kids play area, miles of country walks and many, many pubs.
One of the best for food is the Crown, located right in the centre of the village next to the small square. This is a friendly, family run pub with a lovely cosy feel. They serve a great selection of cask ales and freshly prepared meals such as pork belly and duck breast at really good prices.

The Swan at Walton
The Swan has to be one of my favourite pubs near Hoar Cross Hall. It has a great atmosphere, is cosy inside when its cold and has a great outdoor terrace for when the weather is good.
The food here is perfect for days when you just want to indulge and not worry about the waistline. They serve massive pizzas, freshly prepared in their onsite pizza oven. Plus amazing hanging kebabs with options such as spicy chicken and halloumi with all the sides. It’s all delicious.
The Swan is a little further away from the other pubs on this list but is still only a 20 minute drive. And I promise you it’s worth it. It’s located super close to the A38 so maybe one for your journey home.
The Swan at Walton, Main Street, Walton on Trent, Swadlincote, DE12 8LZ
The Deer Park
Not quite a pub but still an excellent choice for dinner near Hoar Cross Hall is the newly opened Deer Park. Just a few minutes down the road this excellent cafe and farm shop is a brilliant place to spend a few hours.
The cafe serves amazing freshly baked cakes, strong coffee and locally sourced meals. The burgers are absolutely delicious! And if you fancy a tipple while you’re there they currently have an excellent gin truck on site.
