An afternoon tea with friends really is one of the most special treats around. Luxurious but totally accessible to all. I love the mini sandwiches and variety of sweet treats, not quite a meal but much more than a snack. Here’s my round up of the best afternoon tea in Lichfield to book for your next special occasion.
The George
Starting with the most traditional afternoon tea in Lichfield at the George Hotel. During the summer this is a great place to enjoy your treat outdoors on their sunny terrace. Their afternoon tea includes sandwiches, scones, jam and cream and a selection of cakes. Plus a choice of tea or coffee.Traditional afternoon tea is only £15 per person or you can add a glass of fizz for £18 per person.
The Wine House
The Wine House located on Bird Street is one of my favourite places in Lichfield for a night out with the girls. They do amazing cocktails, steaks and as you would imagine, have a fabulous selection of wine. Their afternoon teas are also amongst the best in the city. It starts at just £12 and you can add bottomless option if you fancy a tipple when you’re there.
Mckenzies
Afternoon tea at Mckenzies is a lovely affair. Located in this beautiful restaurant above Lichfields arches. It’s a fairly savoury affair with pork pies, scotch eggs and finger sandwiches. But those with a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed. They also serve McKenzies signature shortcake and a slice of homemade cake.
Ego Restaurant
A mediterranean restaurant may not be the obvious choice for afternoon tea in Lichfield but Ego really does serve up a treat. For just £12.95 per person you can enjoy salmon and dill fishcakes, smoked salmon and chicken sandwiches and goats cheese brioche. For afters there’s scones and cream, brownies and a selection of tarts. Yum! They also offer vegetarian and gluten free options.
Swinfen Hall
For a really special occasion, book your afternoon tea at Swinfen Hall. I’ve celebrated hen dos, baby showers and simply dates nights here and absolutely love it. This is another great one for when the sun is shining as their afternoon tea can be enjoyed on the terrace. Their super indulgent offering is just £25 per person including finger sandwiches, scones, cakes and desert. To make it extra special you can upgrade to include a glass of Taittinger for an extra £11.
The Apple Tree at Barton Marina
Just 15 minutes north of Lichfield on the A38 is Barton Marina. Home to the gorgeous Apple Tree Cafe. They serve a delightful afternoon tea for just £17.50 per person. Cakes are all freshly baked and sandwiches prepared onsite and I’ve always found them exceptionally high quality and generous sizes. It’s perfect for enjoying after a bracing walk around the marinas lakes. You can also buy gift vouchers for their afternoon tea which makes a lovely gift for someone special.
Heart of the Country Shopping Village
Another great place for Afternoon Tea near Lichfield is at the Barn at Swinfen in the Heart of the Country Shopping Village. Its just 5 minutes drive South on the A38 from Lichfield city centre. Afternoon tea which includes sandwiches, small size puddings, cakes and scones is just £16 per person or you could add a glass of prosecco to make it £21. Service here is always super friendly and it’s a lovely place to enjoy a mooch around the independent shops after your afternoon tea.
Deer Park
The Deer Park Farm shop and cafe is one of my favourite places to head out into the countryside near Lichfield. It’s just £15 for a huge selection of savoury and sweet treats. These include a variety of high quality sandwiches, tarts, brownies and scones. Make sure you have a walk around the Deer Park grounds to work off all those treats after your visit. It should take you under 30 minutes to get to the Deer Park from Lichfield.
World of Wedgwood
For a real treat I highly recommend heading further out to Stoke and visiting the wonderful World of Wedgwood. Here you can enjoy your afternoon tea served on the most beautiful ceramics around. Afternoon tea here is a huge occasion and for £25 you can enjoy five types of sandwiches, five varieties of cake and scones and cream alongside an unlimited selection of their loose leaf teas. All in gorgeous surroundings. Vegan and Children’s options are also available. It’s just under an hours drive from Lichfield but I promise you it’s worth the journey!
